Admiral’s Cup
Cross Regional Regatta
4/26-4/27
Number NUST sailors braved a windy weekend on the Sound in the Admiral’s Cup this weekend, coming home at 11th out of 17 teams. NUST held second in A division coming into day two, where 20-25kt winds gave heavier boats an advantage. “King’s Point was a great opportunity to sail against competitors that we don’t normally run into,” said junior Samantha Forgosh, center left. “The conditions were excellent and challenging, allowing us to grow as sailors and as a team. I really enjoyed the experience and can’t wait to build open the knowledge that we gained there.” Off the water, our sailors enjoyed some New York bagels and pizza. Thanks to Kings Point for hosting!
NU Spring
Fundamental Regatta
4/19-4/20
This weekend NUST hosted our spring regatta, NU Spring, at home on the beautiful Lake Michigan from our Sailing Center right on campus. Seven schools raced, and Wisconsin took first place. Jake Weinstein, NUST’s Regatta Chair, who organized and ran the weekend, said there was “a little bit of everything, conditions wise.” He added that it “was a good challenge for our local teams.” Many NUST members united to make the weekend happen behind the scenes, as well as sailing 3 berths. We thank everyone who sailed with us for a great weekend!
MCSA Women’s Championships
Conference Championship
4/12-4/13
The NUST women qualified for the College Sailing Nationals this weekend after a strong fleet performance in the MSCA championships! “Despite the challenging, shifty conditions, and full day from 9-6 of sailing, it was all worth it in the end and it was great to see familiar faces back out on the water!” said freshman Emi Rodes, center left. “We’re very happy with our team’s performance this past weekend!” Thank you to University of Wisconsin, Madison for hosting. We look forward to racing at Nationals!
MCSA Open Championships
Conference Championship
4/4-4/6
NUST sent nine sailors up to chilly Minnesota for the MCSA Conference Championship regatta. “Our team faced some new challenges this weekend battling below freezing weather and heavy winds,” said sophomore Grace Bray (second from right). “Despite the cold, we enjoyed a stiff competition and learned a lot from some quality racing, especially getting to exercise the team racing skills we’ve been honing this year.” The Wildcats took second overall in team racing and fourth in fleet. Thank you to Saint Thomas for hosting!
Cream City Classic
Fundamental Regatta
4/26-4/27
NUST sent ten sailors to Wisconsin for the Cream City Classic. Our two berths had a great weekend of sailing, with pleasant 10-14kt winds on Saturday and a slower Sunday where freshmen Anni Shah and Charlie Crowell earned a bullet. “We had a really fun time this weekend,” said junior Millie Rose Taub, center left. “With two berths, we got to have so many sailors on the water and we all got to sail in a really wide range of conditions. On the water we had some great races and all learned a lot and off the water we got to explore Milwaukee! Thank you to Marquette for hosting a great weekend of sailing!”
Buckeye Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta
Fundamental Regatta
4/26-4/27
NUST took third place this weekend at Ohio State’s keelboat regatta. A full breeze made for fun and competitive racing on both days, despite a slower start on Sunday. “This weekend was such a blast!” said junior Jenna Krinsky, second from left. “We went from none of us ever having stepped foot on a J24 before practice on Friday to winning third place at the regatta! We learned so much and are excited for more keelboat regattas in the future.” Our sailors are always happy to learn new boats, and sailing on a keelboat was a new and fun challenge! Thanks to Ohio State for hosting!
George Morris Trophy
Regional Regatta
4/19-4/20
Five NUST sailors went out to beautiful Boston for Boston University’s George Morris Trophy on the Charles River. With a strong Saturday of sailing (including a bullet for Cole Abbott and Grace Gormley) Sunday’s racing was cancelled due to high wind, leaving our sailors with a day to explore Boston and watch the Red Sox! “With the challenging conditions of the Charles I felt healthy competitive pressure to grow my confidence on the water,” said freshman Charlie Crowell, second from left. “I am from Cape Cod, so to be able to compete so close to home, and then explore Boston with my friends on the team was a real treat.” Thanks to BU for hosting!
Laker Showdown
Fundamental Regatta
4/12-4/13
Six NUST sailors headed over to Grand Valley State this weekend to compete in the Laker Showdown. Ten schools were represented, with 12 berths sailing. NUST took ninth overall. “We were excited to see a bunch of first-time sails and massive improvement throughout the regatta,” said sophomore John Tirpak, right. “It was fun trying out new techniques in wildly fickle wind conditions. Great way to kick off the spring sailing season!” Thank you to Grand Valley State University for hosting!
McIntyre Team Race
Cross Regional Regatta
2/8-2/9
In the first team race regatta of the season, NUST sent seven sailors all the way to the California Bay Area to compete in the McIntyre Team Race at Stanford University. With a beautiful first day with 4-12 knot winds, our sailors established a winning record. However, Sunday’s wind failed to materialize, and despite 5 races being sailed, only Saturday’s results determined final scores. NUST took 6th place and enjoyed the beautiful California winter while brushing up on our team racing. “It was great to be back on the water for so many of our members after a long break,” said sophomore Jake Weinstein (center). “We’re looking forward to team race nationals qualifiers.” Thank you to Stanford for hosting!
Harris Kempner Memorial Regatta
Regional Regatta
2/8-2/9
NUST sent five sailors down to balmy Texas to sail in the 2025 Harris Kempner Memorial Regatta. Conditions on the first day were sunny and windy, with fast-paced W6 races, and the second day brought calmer conditions, with our sailors navigating lighter wind and foggy weather. In addition to a fifth place overall finish and two bullets, NUST enjoyed some Texan barbeque and line dancing. “I had a lot of fun, I learned a lot,” said junior Millie Rose Taub (second from left). “It was great to be in the sun.” Thank you to the Lakewood Yacht Club and Texas A&M Galveston for hosting and organizing!
